Summer must be on its way because I'll be at
Southern Accent Restaurant
June 15th and 16th for our annual Blue Moon Weekend brunch-art-music event.

Inspired by our recent trip to India (and the 2000 photos we took), you’ll notice a bit of Varanasi and Mumbai making an appearance in my recent work, and Neil and I will be supporting World Literacy Canada’s work in India by donating a percentage of my painting sales to their amazing programs.
And did I mention there’s a new pink wall in our house?

While I’m showing my work upstairs, Frances and Thes will open their restaurant for their amazing weekend brunch.  The menu will feature many familiar favourites, and don’t be surprised if there are a few new temptations.

Thes may even be spreading a little Hindi-Creole magic by incorporating some Indian spice into a dish or two.
And, if all of that wasn’t enough, Terry Wilkins, Tyler Yarema and Howard Moore will be on-hand Sunday with live music.  Fantastic.
So, bring a gaggle of your closest friends and join us on the patio for our once in a blue moon Art-Music-Brunch Extravaganza!

Don’t forget to make (on-line) reservations!

New works in preparation for summer show at Southern Accent

In spite of all the snow we've had dumped on us and the ferocity of our storms, this winter has been a very productive time for me (in between enjoying our first winter with a car, scraping, scraping, scraping ...)

I continue to experiment with different techniques and ways to manipulate the paint.

I even learned a new trick from a up and coming painter named Kieren.

In June I'll be showing at Southern Accent during Frances and Tess's Blue Moon Weekend of brunch, art and music. This is a fab, once a year event and a great excuse to linger on a patio over something cool.

My work will be on display Saturday, June 11th and Sunday June 12th and I'll have more information in a month or so.

My show at Southern Accent

My show at Southern Accent Restaurant in Toronto was equal parts art and friends.

Snaps to Frances for having the foresight (and energy) to present her Once in a Blue Moon brunch which made the weekend hugely festive and yummy.

Apart from wonderful food (beignets and andouille sausage, po' boy sandwiches and potato salad, mmmmmMimosas ...) and fantastic music, there were lots of friends just chillin' N'awlins style.

We spent Saturday evening on the patio, after the day of brunch-fun, getting psychic readings, drinking bourbon sours and hanging with friends.

I think we should do this every year!

What do you think Frannie?

My next show in Toronto ...

I'll be at Southern Accent Restaurant,
June 20 and 21, from 11am to 4pm each day, showing my new work and helping Frances and her crew as they celebrate 25 years in business!

I've been painting pretty much as long as Southern has been a restaurant (I started painting in diapers) so the timing couldn't be more serendipitous (good word - imagine scrabble points!).

My paintings are always hangin' around at Southern, but this will be a serious infusion of my work, many with a slightly different palette for me, over a two-day weekend.

Drop buy to say hello, see what I've been up to and maybe linger later with a Bourbon Sour and some piquant shrimp!

My Southern show

There are moments in your life when everything seems so warm and rich.
This past weekend was one
of those times.

Showing my own work is unavoidably stressful and it's always a surprise when we invite people
to a display of my work, and they actually show up! I must say I truly have a wonderful group of friends and family. Many are cut-off from buying any more pieces - they could already open their own Grindley Gallery!

It was the first time we'd done a Toronto show since moving to St. Thomas, and most of the time we were too busy hugging and catching-up to even notice the red
sale dots appearing here and there. It was so fitting that Southern Accent hosted my show since the restaurant was my second home for so many years. Neil has his own special memories from his time there and, for both of us, one of down-sides of our moving away was not being able to see Frances as often as we used to.

I loved seeing all my friends and meeting a few new ones, and it was particularly touching when our late friend Charlie's aunt Mabel walked in. Mabel is very special to us and Southern was always Charlie's favourite restaurant so the combination was particularly touching. Thanks so much to Nancy for making that happen.
Big hugs and thanks to Frances for doing all the stuff she does and being so greathearted. I wish our schedule had been a bit more generous; dining at Southern Accent is still one of our favourite parts of life (I love the piquant shrimp, Neil loves the Cajun Martini's and Bourbon Sours).
And as always, thanks to Dana for being our chauffeur and indulging us in our big city
must-dos (Mountain Equipment Co-Op, SOMA Chocolates, Whole Foods). Next time we do this, we're thinking of combining it with a Cajun brunch so people could have something nice to look at and something great to eat. Yum - can't wait.

My show at Southern Accent Restaurant

I'm super excited to be having my first Toronto showing since our emigration to St. Thomas (no passport required) and I've been quite the busy bee, enjoying my new fully equipped 800 square foot studio (a.k.a. our basement). Big thanks to Frances for opening the doors of Southern Accent for me; my work always looks fantastic at Southern and is a perfect match for the restaurant's groove, like washing down blackened livers with a Bourbon Sour.
Speaking of which, after my show, hang around for drinks or dinner, or drinks
and dinner, or drinks and dessert ... you get the idea. I hope to see you then!
